In a collaboration capturing the essence of Italian and British craftsmanship and fittingly complementing the lifestyle of the well-traveled man, this week sees Globe-Trotter and Missoni launch the limited-edition collection of cases showcased on Missoni’s Spring / Summer runway in Milan.
The esteemed, heritage brand, Globe-Trotter – founded in 1897 and boasting a 117-year history – has teamed up with Missoni to produce three, beautifully hand crafted luggage pieces: a 13″ mini utility case, a 21″ trolley case and a 30″ extra-deep suitcase.
This limited-edition series has been meticulously crafted on Victorian machinery at Globe-Trotter’s Hertfordshire factory, and realized in Globe-Trotter’s unique vulcanised fibreboard material. The fibreboard has been coloured to specification, trimmed with vegetable-tanned, Tuscan “fieno” leather, and lined in Missoni’s signature space-dyed knits.
Each suitcase in the collection has been formed from an elegant Ivory, vulcanised fibreboard. In order to replicate Missoni’s brick-red colour, Globe-Trotter has taken a new approach to its reinforced corners by lacquering reversed fibreboard, giving an aged and distressed look to the product. Working closely with Missoni, a special, cotton-woven webbing belt for the outside of the suitcases has been developed in a Missoni-interpreted, herringbone pattern.
Finally, each piece has been lined in fine, 18 gauge, space-dyed Peruvian cotton. Each piece of fabric has been knitted on Missoni’s heritage looms in Sumirago as a tubular fabric in order to obtain Missoni’s distinctive, flame pattern in vermillion and military green for the mini utility case, indigo and emerald green for the trolley case and turmeric and oxidized blue for the extra-deep suitcase.
