DJ Gilles Peterson on Why Globe-Trotter Was His First Choice To Create A Bespoke Case For His Music Mixer
Gilles Peterson has spent more than four decades shaping the music landscape. From setting up his own radio station by suspending an aerial between a tree and a phone box, to hosting a primetime show on BBC Radio 6, his sound has reached the ears of millions across the world.
And his mixes aren’t the only thing to travel far. Beyond broadcasting, the DJ curates renowned festivals such as Worldwide – held every July in Sète, France – and the Ricci Weekender in Sicily, solidifying his status as a frequent voyager. And every seasoned traveller requires a Globe-Trotter.
A longstanding admirer of the brand, Peterson sought to expand his collection of luxury trunks with a bespoke case tailored specifically for his custom turntable.
‘Being a huge fan of the brand, it felt only natural to call Globe-Trotter to create the perfect case for my personalised Isonoe mixer,’ he explains. Given the mixer’s specialised design and high-end specifications, it deserved an equally exceptional case.
Globe-Trotter’s in-store bespoke service offers the opportunity to craft a one-of-a-kind case, meticulously tailored to your individual needs. With thousands of design options covering everything from the exterior’s hardware to the stitching in the interior, the team works closely with you to translate your vision into reality with clarity and precision.
Whether it is selecting a specific leather finish or incorporating a custom compartment for prized equipment, no detail is too small and no aspiration too grand.
Peterson was the first broadcaster to play Amy Winehouse and, in 1990, was one of the early DJs on 102.2 Jazz FM, the UK’s first dedicated jazz station; it’s clear he has always had an eye for the contemporary. And after his initial meeting with Globe-Trotter, the artist quickly sensed the team shared this sensibility.
‘After showing me different samples and a selection of previous specialised products, I trusted leaving the majority of the creative direction in their hands,’ he says. ‘Sometimes you just have to let the creativity flow, especially when you feel that you all understand each other.’
The result is a refined light brown case accented with eight royal navy corners and two primary red handles. Peterson is an avid collector of vinyl, so the case’s vintage aesthetic felt fitting. The red handles reflect the artist’s fun youthful spirit while maintaining a timeless appeal.
‘There’s a natural aesthetic that’s been created here,’ he says. ‘The amount of other DJs that have asked me about it is quite something.’
Even though Peterson put all his trust in the Globe-Trotter team, he had one crucial request. ‘Essentially, the interior needed to be safe and protect the machinery across all types of travel. This was the most important aspect of the whole process. I always knew the aesthetic was going to be on point.’

After several consultations, where Globe-Trotter’s skilled craftsmen meticulously measured the mixer, they lined the trunk’s interior with custom-cut foam and added two internal straps to ensure stability during transit.

Peterson joins a lineup of other artists who have worked with Globe-Trotter to bring their creative vision to life, including pianist and composer Hayato Sumino, who needed a bespoke Globe-Trotter case for his own musical companion: a miniature piano.
