My Globe-Trotter... Adam Kelly - GLOBE-TROTTER

The Director of buying and merchandising at Fenwick of Bond Street talks packing tips, time out and travelling as a family

This spring, Globe-Trotter has teamed up with great British department store Fenwick of Bond Street to produce an exclusive new Trolley Case. With a fibreboard body in Fenwick’s signature forest green, contrasting natural or navy straps and a surprise archive photo lining, this latest twist on the classic Globe-Trotter suitcase is certainly one for fashion lovers to add to their collection.

One man who knows a thing or two about fashion and leading a jet-set lifestyle is Fenwick of Bond Street’s director of buying and merchandising, Adam Kelly. We caught up with Adam to talk travel and the art of packing.

What is your packing method?
I tend to pack around key pieces to maintain a minimal approach – the less I need to pack the better.

What do you never leave home without?
Keys, wallet, phone.

Do you have any advice when it comes to packing?
Always check the forecast. I try to be streamlined when packing and the weather has a large influence on what I pack.

If you could swap luggage with anyone who would it be?
Robert Kennedy – an effortless way of dressing and being in the world.

What’s the best hotel you’ve ever stayed in?
I’m very fortunate to have stayed in a few beautiful hotels, but my favourite is Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole, Italy. It has breathtaking views, amazing food and a magical energy.

Do you have any pre-travel rituals?
It depends on who I’m travelling with. Now that I have a one-year-old daughter she is the main focus when travelling as a family. If I’m travelling on my own then I tackle the papers!

How do you kill time on long-haul flights?
I really enjoy the time away from the phone and emails. It’s good reading and film catch-up time.

Have you ever had any disastrous or stressful journeys?
I’ve had a couple of stressful trips in my time. A couple of near misses here and there but I’ve always managed to arrive at the destination in the end.

What was the last trip you went on?
My wife and I went to Los Angeles recently. We stayed at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood. The team are like a family – just really special people.

And where is your next?
We’re heading to Ibiza soon. I’m really looking forward to long lunches and family time.
