A celebration of craftsmanship, exploration and the art of travelling well, the Sundowner Trunk has been created by Globe-Trotter for Abercrombie & Kent’s Kitirua Plains Lodge in Kenya.
Bringing together Globe-Trotter’s heritage of British craftsmanship with Abercrombie & Kent’s pioneering spirit of exploration, the trunk reimagines one of safari’s most enduring traditions: the sundowner, a moment to pause, reflect and celebrate the day’s discoveries as the African landscape transitions from day to dusk.
The Art of the Sundowner
Since Geoffrey Kent founded Abercrombie & Kent’s first safari in Kenya in 1962, the sundowner has become a defining part of the safari experience. It is a time to gather beneath the African sky, share stories and reflect on the journey so far.
The Sundowner Trunk brings this ritual to life through Globe-Trotter craftsmanship, creating a considered companion for moments of connection and discovery.
Designed to hold the essentials of the safari sundowner, the trunk features bespoke compartments for glassware, bar tools, wine, spirits, tiffin trays and accessories, combining practical function with refined detailing.

Oak Construction
The Sundowner Trunk is constructed in oak, selected for its strength, durability, and natural character. The timber forms the foundation of the trunk’s fitted interior, supporting the precisely arranged compartments and full-width drawer.
Vulcanised Fibreboard
The exterior is finished in Globe-Trotter’s proprietary Vulcanised Fibreboard, composed of 14 layers of recycled paper, cotton, and wood pulp from sustainable forests. The layers are bonded with zinc and compressed using steam and pressure. This results in a material that is exceptionally lightweight and strong, offering durability while retaining Globe-Trotter’s distinctive character.
The interior lid is finished in ivory Vulcanised Fibreboard and features a screen-printed Globe-Trotter and Abercrombie & Kent insignia.
Vegetable-Tanned Leather
Leather straps and hand-moulded corner detailing draw inspiration from Globe-Trotter’s iconic Centenary Collection. Made from vegetable-tanned hide, the leather develops a rich patina over time, giving each trunk a character shaped by use and age.
Leather-Lined Compartments
Inside, twenty-two leather-lined compartments are precisely fitted to organise cocktail glasses, tumblers, wine and spirits, tiffin trays, bar tools, and accessories. The considered layout combines practical function with refined detailing.
Polished Brass Hardware
Locks, fittings, and hardware are finished in polished brass, selected for their durability, security, and timeless character. The warm finish complements the trunk’s leather detailing and Vulcanised Fibreboard exterior.
